Who is Paul Steklenski?
Paul Steklenski is a US Army Veteran who spent the 90s leading officer training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. But it wasn’t until 2013 that Paul found his true calling. The hobby pilot from Pennsylvania decided to use his flying to skills for a higher purpose: to start a non-profit organisation called Flying fur animal rescue! This organisation is dedicated to saving animals from kill shelters and euthanization, by flying them to states where they can be put in safer shelters. From here Paul’s furry friends are adopted to loving homes, giving them a chance for a better life.
Flying over 1000 dogs to a new life
Since Paul began transporting animals in 2015, he has saved over 1000 rescue dogs! What is even more impressive is that most of these trips were funded by Paul himself. Without regular donations, Paul’s drive to change dog’s lives has cost him quite a lot of money. After initially investing $70’000 in his own aircraft, a further $1000 is spent each month on his trips. If you would like to find out more about ‘Flying fur animal rescue’ you can check out their website. It even includes the unique stories of several of the dogs saved by Paul (we would definitely recommend it if you need to read something heartwarming today).
